UX Writing
This is a sample of tech writing projects that involved writing online text (ux writing) before that was a commonly used term.
In addition, when Carolyn wrote Lotus Notes applications, she wrote the button names, form labels, field help, etc.
Centec – Technical Writer / UX Writer Reston, VA
· Wrote 300-page manual for Centec’s Computer Aided Manufacturing Module (CAMM). CAMM was licensed to Allen Bradley and was an innovative product that turned sensor data into meaningful mages on PCs. Wrote all online help, participated in design of onscreen labels and menu wording. This was an early IOT project.
AMIE – Technical Writer / UX Writer Consultant Vienna, VA
· Wrote 200-page user guide for AMIE’s card. This card fit into Macintoshes and provided connection to larger systems. Relabeled menu titles and choices, and onscreen text, simplifying doc and product.
IBM – Technical Writer / Software Designer Boston, MA
· Part of an IBM team trying to create a competitor to the Macintosh by programming with a visual system called Asymetrix Toolbook. Writer and prototyper on the team., creating online prompts and sample scenarios to demonstrate the product, and button labels.
Lotus – Technical Writer Consultant Cambridge, MA
· Wrote the User Guide for Lotus Notes R 3.0. Lobbied for better online help tools with Iris developers.
WebLoq – Lotus Notes Mail Engine Expert Santa Clara, CA
· Modified Lotus Notes Domino email and topology to be compatible with Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, and WebLoq’s proprietary private Mail system. Created prototype including all onscreen texts and labels, and documentation for Chilean audience.
Brightmail – Lotus Notes Mail Engine Expert San Francisco, CA
· Anti-Spam industry. Wrote the Domino plug-in for Brightmail’s Antispam product, which was later bought by Symantec. 2003. Also wrote the functional spec, the online help messages, onscreen labels and the developer guide.
